– ALUMNEISTA TUKEA OPISKELIJOIDEN AMMATILLISEEN IDENTITEETTIKRIISIIN
Syksy on saapunut ja tuonut mukanaan uudet tuulet ja uudet kuviot. Monilla syksy on uuden aloittamisen aikaa; joku saattaa aloittaa opintonsa, toinen uuden harrastuksen ja kolmas laihdutuskuurin.
Kaiken kaikkiaan syksy on monille tarmokasta aikaa, johon liittyy toive ”paremman elämän” aloittamisesta ja oman aktiivisuuden lisäämisestä.
Kaikille syksy ei kuitenkaan ole niin innostavaa ja inspiroivaa aikaa. Päinvastoin.
Joillekin opintojaan jatkaville yliopisto-opiskelijoille syksy ja opiskeluihin palaaminen voi merkitä jopa ahdistusta ja epävarmuutta. Esimerkiksi työelämän kynnyksellä oleva opiskelija saattaa painia seuraavien kysymysten äärellä: ”Onko näistä opinnoista työllistymisen kannalta konkreettista hyötyä?” ja ”Miten voi olla mahdollista, että opiskelen neljättä vuotta, enkä vieläkään tiedä mikä minusta tulee isona?” tai ”Pitäisikö minun vaihtaa pääainetta?”
Edellä mainitut kysymykset eivät ole ainoastaan blogin kirjoittajan omasta päästä temmattuja, vaikka myönnän, että sosiologian entisenä opiskelijana olen noita kysymyksiä päässäni monesti pyöritellyt.
Opiskelijoiden huoli omasta tulevaisuudesta ja työllistymisestä on noussut esille myös Lapin yliopiston opiskelijoiden keskuudessa. Yliopiston tiedekuntakohtaisessa opetuksen kehittämistilaisuudessa opiskelijat ovat kertoneet, kuinka joillakin tiedekuntien alojen opiskelijoilla on ”identiteettikriisi” siitä, millaisiin töihin he tulevat sijoittumaan valmistumisen jälkeen. Erityisesti tätä kriisiä potivat ns. yleisten aineiden kuten politiikkatieteiden, matkailututkimuksen ja sosiologian opiskelijat. Opiskelijoiden epävarmuuden helpottamiseksi pohdittiin eri ratkaisuja. Erityisesti alumniyhteistyö, alumnien vierailut ja realististen, tavallisten uratarinoiden kuuleminen koettiin potentiaalisiksi ratkaisuiksi. Alumnien kertomien urakehitysesimerkkien koettiin luovan uskoa tulevaisuuteen ja uskoa omaan osaamiseen.
Lapin yliopistossa VALTTI-hanke pyrkii vastaamaan opiskelijoiden identiteettikriisiin panostamalla tänä syksynä erityisesti alumniyhteistyöhön, alumnitapahtumien muodossa. Allekirjoittanut on valjastettu näiden tapahtumien suunnitteluun ja tapahtumien ideointi tullaan toteuttamaan alusta lähtien yhteistyössä Lapin yliopiston ainejärjestöjen ja ylioppilaskunnan kanssa. Tämä siksi, että alumnitapahtumat vastaisivat mahdollisimman hyvin opiskelijoiden toiveisiin ja tarpeisiin ja ollen ”opiskelijoidensa näköiset”.
Opiskelijan sitoutuneisuuden ja motivaation kannalta alumnien uratarinat toimivat hyvänä kannustimena opinnoissa eteenpäin. Alumni on ollut joskus itsekin opiskelija ja tietää minkä kysymysten äärellä opiskelija välillä joutuu ”taikinoimaan”. Alumnilta opiskelija saa reaaliaikaista tietoa työelämän vaatimuksista ja siitä, miten työelämän tarpeisiin voi lähteä vastaamaan jo opiskeluaikana. Hyödyllistä tietoa on esimerkiksi alumnien vinkit siitä mitä sivuaineita kannattaisi valita, mitä taitoja ja tietoja olisi hyvä kehittää, mitä tehdä kun opiskelu tökkii? Entä miten he itse ovat selvinneet kriiseistä mitä opiskeluaikana on tullut esimerkiksi opiskeluihin motivoitumisen suhteen?
Alumnitoiminnalla VALTTI-hanke pyrkii vahvistamaan opiskelijoiden motivaatiota ja tukemaan heidän ammatillisen identiteettinsä kehittymistä. Toivotaan, että alumnitoiminta tuo syksyn pimeneviin iltoihin lisävalaistusta opiskelijoille =)
